Sleep Test
Learn How to Sleep Like a Pro
Benefits of taking the test
A large study of Spanish adults found that sleep health, measured with RU-SATED, was the single strongest predictor of how healthy people felt, beating out diet, exercise, smoking, and alcohol. In fact, moving from a “poor” RU-SATED score (below 8) to a “good” one (8 or higher) was linked to roughly a 70 percent jump in self‑rated physical wellbeing, more than double the boost seen from the same level of improvement in physical activity. Knowing your own RU SATED score helps you spot exactly which of the six sleep pillars need work, giving you a clear, high‑impact target for better overall health.
History of the test
The RU-SATED checklist began at the University of Pittsburgh, where sleep researcher Dr. Daniel J. Buysse first framed “sleep health” as a positive, measurable goal in 2014 and summed it up with five items called SATED (Satisfaction, Alertness, Timing, Efficiency, Duration). Two years later the team added “Regularity”, emphasizing a steady bedtime and wake‑time—to create the six‑item RU-SATED scale we know today. Early studies from 2016‑2019 showed the new survey was both reliable and useful for large groups of adults. Since then, RU-SATED has been translated into multiple languages, validated on every continent, and adopted by researchers and clinicians alike as a quick snapshot of overall sleep health.
